ECHO PARK - The Office of Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell has been working with City departments and stadium neighbors to help ease some of the congestion and parking issues from the overflow of Dodgers fans on Opening Day, which is taking place this year on Thursday, March 29, with gates opening three hours before the first pitch at 4:08 p.m.

Over the last few years, the office has collaborated with the Los Angeles Police Department, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Rec and Parks, and Dodger’s management to develop solutions to the congestion in our communities.

“An annual tradition for thousands of Angelenos is about to get underway -- watching the first pitch on Opening Day at Dodger Stadium,” said Councilmember O’Farrell. “I want to be sure there is minimum impact to our local residents and that visitors are aware and respectful of the fact that the stadium is surrounded by a neighborhood where thousands of people call home.”

Below are the following mitigations being funded by the Councilmember’s Office to ensure residents and fans have a safe experience here in Echo Park while they enjoy the game:

Secured two portable toilets and a wash station at the corner of Elysian Park Drive and Scott Avenue.

  • Covered the cost for Temporary 2-hour parking from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following streets:

    • Morton Avenue between Echo Park Avenue and Academy Road

    • Scott Avenue between Echo Park Avenue and Sutherland Street

    • Laveta Terrace between Scott Avenue and McDuff Street

    • McDuff Street between Scott Avenue and Galveston Street

    • Quintero Street between MacBeth Street and Sunset Boulevard

    • Douglas Street between Elysian Park Drive and Sunset Boulevard

  • Helped secure parking permits (D Permits) for residents on Portia Street from Scott Avenue to the dead end, and on Morton Street from Academy Road to Elysian Park Drive. For the 2017 season, we added the 1300 - 1500 block of Sutherland St and 1400 block of MacBeth Street.

  • Dispatch the Council District 13 Clean Team before the game to assist with trash & debris.

  • Requested LAPD increase patrols along Sunset Boulevard and residential areas around Dodgers Stadium.

  • Academy Road will be closed to Westbound traffic at Stadium Way after the first pitch

  • No Left Turn on Portia Street after the game.

  • No Parking - Tow Away on the Northside of Sunset Boulevard from Portia Street to Quintero Street.

  • Elysian Park will be open to the public, but there will be no parking or tailgating allowed within the Park for Opening Day.

Councilmember O’Farrell’s staff will be out in the community on opening day in case you have any questions, or you can contact our Echo Park field deputy Juan Fregoso via phone at 213-207-3015 or email at juan.fregoso@lacity.org.
